Europe

Tech/Eco:

  • On Jan 5th, 2023, based on the report of Deutsche Welle (DW), the GDP of Germany grew by 1.9% in 2022. Germany successfully prevented a recession in 2022, performed a better economy than forecast.

  • On 19 March 2023, the Credit Suisse was acquitted by the Swiss investment bank UBS Group AG for 3 Billion Swiss franc. The crisis was trigged by the US Banking Crisis.

  • On 14 April 2023, the last nuclear plant in Germany, which ended its nuclear era, was switched off.

  • In 2023, Geoffrey Hinton, the Godfather of AI warns the risks of AI. In 2012, in Toronto, Hinton and his students did the research and the creation regarding the AI simulation of human brains and neural network systems for detecting and recognizing different objects. In 2013, At $44 million, Google acquired Hinton's company, DNNResearch Inc. He then became one of the top Research scientist at Google. His student, IIya Sitskever became one of the top computer scientist at OpenAI. Hinton's research regarding the AI simulation of human brains and neural network systems laid a foundation for the current ChatGPT of OpenAI and the Bard of Google.

  • In 2023, Germany overtook Japan, became the 3rd largest economy in the world.

  • On 8 December 2021, Angela Merkel, who has been Chancellor of Germany for 16 years, left office.

  • On 24 February 2022, a major escalation of the Russo-Ukrainian Conflict/War took place.

  • On 26 September 2022, Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 natural gas pipelines across the Baltic Sea from Russia to Germany were sabotaged.

  • On 14 March 2023, after encounter and interaction with two Russian Su-27 flight jets, one US Air Force MQ-9 Reaper drone, which was based in Romania, crashed into the Black Sea.

  • On 4th March 2023, Finland joins the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), becoming the 31st member of the alliance.

  • On August 30, 2022, the eighth and last President of the Soviet Union Mikhail Gorbachev passed away in Moscow, Russia

  • On September 8, 2022, the Queen Elizabeth II passed away in UK.

Tech/Eco:

  • In 202o, the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) plans the construction of chip factories in Phoenix, AZ, USA.

  • On 6th December 2022, the largest foreign investment in Arizona history was announced by the TSMC, which increases its investment from $12 billion to $40 billion.

  • On March 4th, 2023, China sets its target GDP growth around 5% for 2023.

  • On 15 September 2021, a trilateral military alliance between Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States was formed.

Other:

  • On November 30, 2022, former President of the P. R. of China, Jiang Zeming passed away in Shanghai, China.



 





North America

Tech/Eco:

  • On late December 2019, the USA exports more energy than it imports and achieves energy independence.

  • On mid December 2022, the USA had major research and development breakthrough in nuclear fusion energy.

  • In November 2022, an artificial intelligence chatbot called ChatGPT developed by OpenAI is launched.

  • On March 10, 2023, the Silicon Valley Bank ( SVB ) failed after a bank run, the failure of which is the second-largest in US Financial history. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) took over afterwards.

  • On March 16, 2023, the First Republic Bank was deposited $30 billion by eleven American giant banks trying to save the bank. The situation is similar to the failure of SVB. The "Biggest banks coming together to deposit" idea or action was conceived by the Secretary of the Treasury, Janet Yellen.

  • On May 1, 2023, JPMorgan Chase buys First Republic Bank for $10.6 billion.
